Dr. Alicia Muratore, MD, MBA is a gastroenterologist at UNC Health Rex Digestive who is passionate about helping patients feel comfortable, supported, and understood as they navigate their digestive health. She values building strong relationships with her patients, taking the time to listen to their concerns, explain options clearly, and create care plans that fit their lives. Dr. Muratore cares for the full range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions including constipation and pelvic floor dysfunction, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis), Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Colon Cancer screening and prevention, acid and peptic related diseases (GERD and peptic ulcer disease), and Hepatology, with special interests in nutrition and obesity medicine. She completed advanced training in nutrition through the Nestlé Nutrition Institute and is a board-certified Physician Nutrition Specialist (PNS), as well as board certified in obesity medicine with additional training from the Harvard Blackburn Course in Obesity Medicine. She completed her medical degree at Jefferson, Internal Medicine Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, MBA at Harvard Business School, and Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of North Carolina. Outside of medicine, she is an avid runner who has completed 14 marathons, including all six of the World Marathon Majors, and she enjoys hiking, scuba diving, and spending time outdoors. She brings the same dedication and perseverance that fuel her athletic pursuits to the care of her patients, with the goal of helping each person live healthier and feel their best.
